So, I am a junior at WWU. I will graduate december 2009.
I am riding saddleseat this semester, and LOVE it.
Now i am torn. For next semester, should I go back to my faithful, old, traditional, hunters? Or stay in saddleseat?
I feel like I am catching on in saddleseat really quickly, but worry about the cost of being succesful in it.
Anyone want to vote????
saddleseat? Huntseat??

Well, what kind of horse would you like? :) Fancy Arab horse? Or another Quarter Horse?
Is that the cost of being successful in it in your mind? The cost of the horse? Or the shows, or... ???

Make yourself a list of the pros and cons of each. Make a list of the costs of each. Make a list of what you want most out spending time with horses--does one discipline suit those goals and dreams better than the others?

Do whatever you feel most comfortable doing...but know that it is okay to change your mind over and over again!:cowboy:

I say do what your comfortable with and maybe try saddlesear sometime in the future you can change your mind a million times like piper said! :) BTW MN I'm about to retire the leathers you gave me because they don't match my new saddle its kinda sad haha they lasted me a lot of months

Gotta go with what you are comfortable with. If you like the saddleseat then stick with it. If you prefer hunter then go back.....I know I am not much help..:p But it has to be your choice. Like Piper said, you can change as much as you want till you know what you really want to do later.
I'd say you are a saddleseat kind of gal! :) Seriously, if you like saddleseat right now and you have fun learning it, there is nothing wrong to try it out a little further. You will not loose anything in hunter seat and you can always go back.

I really WANT to stay with saddleseat longer. I really do. I know there are a lot of barns in MN and MO with saddleseat.
I just dont know what to do, I will have to talk to my instructor. I have to decide by tomorrow.... but, I am in the teaching class for hunters.... and next semester I need to do keeper (managing a string of horses) and you have to pick a barn to be in. so would I switch my keeper barn? and switch what I teach as well? IDK :S its scary this college stuff....

No decision made in college is a life decision.... even your major. Heck... I'm not doing what I went to college to do. Not even close.
Saddleseat is good for the young... flashy horses, fast pace, glamorous dress. You can always go back to hunters, but you may not feel a lot like Saddleseat when you're 40 if you don't do it now. :)

LOL yeah I dont think I have the stamina like Gayle Lampe.... she has been TEACHING saddleseat here for 40 years! and still rides, shows, and wins.... also trains several of the horses when they have problems.

After many years of showing Saddleseat (ASB) I got burned out on going around and around in circles.
I later went into hunter/jumpers and was entertained for a while until I discovered that I was the one who was arena sour.
As WB said, this is not written in stone. If your desire is Saddleseat, then let it be. You can always change your mind.
I've seen some shows (arabian) where they go from saddleseat to huntseat per class. Just an idea.
