What about setting something up with Baywind Forum and having our names like we did on the old forum???
I would like a t-shirt and a cup and a bag.
What do you think? Be a way to make money for the forum. I know there are others that would do it too.

Shall we also offer selected CG quotes on toilet paper? Or should it be any member of your choosing? :D

I know that was made as a funny, but really not a bad idea. We (the group) come up with some really funny stuff sometimes. We could have coffee mugs with a saying in quotes and a forum name under it who said it.

That is an EXCELLENT idea. It could be quotes from the political section to the horse section to the general section. You could have bumper stickers in addition to the other stuff.
We have some pretty good artists here. They could do black drawings of the different horse breeds and have your name associated with it as well as Baywind Forum. And then there could be a whole line of quotes on shirts, cups etc. Calendars, bags, mouse pads.
It would be a good way to advertise the forum too. I know when I wore my other forum shirt I got a lot of people asking about it.

What's on the front, what's on the back... which things are the same for all the shirts, and which are the pieces that are custom for each one... Is that all things that cafepress can do? Or does it take special handling?

Uh - oh - hubby knows... I don't. Hopefully he'll see this.
We're talking... and we were looking at the art specs for cafepress, what sizes and shapes to make things... and how it all works, and it looks like there's a base price for all the types of items, and then we charge whatever we want to on top of that... a few bucks, depending on what it is....
What I think we should do is this:
You artsy folk make a design that works, according to these specs: CafePress.com : Sell Your Designs, Photos and Images on CafePress.com : Product Templates (http://www.cafepress.com/cp/info/sell/index.aspx?area=help_templates&page=help_templates). We don't have to choose just one design... we can upload as many as you guys want to make... shirts, hats, mugs, mousepads, whatever...
We'll keep track of what sells, and give the designer of each product the first $25 in profits from it. Maybe in a Amazon gift certificate or some other site of your choice?
If we make anything beyond that, we'll be able to apply it to the costs of running the site... and if there's leftovers, maybe save up for some of the software add-ons we'd like to have (a better pic uploader for example) that we've been putting off because they cost extra money to buy.

lol, maybe there should be a variety of t-shirt colors to choose from.;) I don't really like pastely colors because they get too dirty and I'm just partial to red (it's one of Kota's colors--all his stuff is red, white, and blue-- and also my school color:D). Pastel green would like nice though.

The only problem is all the above empty space...when I use the template (since it's 2000x2000px) it kinda is the wrong proportion to fill all the space.
For T-shirt colours, I used the kinda grey colour we have as a b/g as t'would be OK because it wouldn't be so bad if it got dirty, even if it's pale...IMO ;)
And I think the red text, obv, and black silhouette, obv.
I hope WB doesn't mind me using the Bay-man silhouette xD

We'll give a week or so for everyone to continue to make up designs, keep it up... while hubby's parents are here we don't have time to get any of them uploaded to the shop, but we'll probably work on it early next week... :)

O yeah, no bother! I was just showing what it'd be like WITH a screen name. Of course there's the other breeds I've been doing - drafts, ponies etc - I am even toying with appy & paint silhouettes ;P

Well, we're maybe ready to submit a couple of the designs people have come up with! We need more though! I liked the one with the Arab horse, but people may want silhouettes of their own breed.
I'd like to see some with the Bay man yawning made up... since that's turned into our sortof 'logo' now. :)
We have more time now to move forward - Maybe I'll post another thread this evening asking for good, final designs we know the artists are happy with that are within the specs cafepress needs.

You know what I would think would be very cute? A whole herd of the cartoon horses in the style that FSA and Gazette and others ??? make, with recognizable sortof renditions of all our horses in it... Not exactly, and not trying to get everyone, but if there were several sorrels and bays and a big black horse, a couple pintos of chestnut and black and white, an appy or two, a little grey, a palomino, a couple haffies... enough to make everyone feel represented... it would be real cute... the more the better, a loose mingling herd of them, standing in a line over the forum name. Would be real cute if someone can do it.

Nicely done! I like! I'm glad you dredged it up.
How does it work in Cafepress, to get your own screen name put on one?
The only thing I can think of is the screen name may have to be separate from the rest of the art, so it can be put on as a separate step somehow.

Like I might like the option of putting your yawning art, smaller, on the front 'pocket' of a t or polo shirt... or even, on hats or a mug or something too... can we just take one piece of art and re-size it for other things? I'd think so...
KittySawrus

ETA: WB, I think you'd have to go thru somebody on the computer or visit the link you posted before for template sizes of various products. At least, I can't think of a simpler way to do things :/
Rightio, I did the process as if I was doing a one-off order - I don't know what it's like if you were doing it thru an account.
I had to re-do and re-size some stuff to the template for the top I chose, which was 10"x10". My images usually came out at 7.2" square on the top itself.
I also made all the images .PNGs, as this gave them a transparent background.
AAAND you can only do colours of tops that are already given. If you want a particular style and it doesn't come in black, tough luck :/
http://www.baywindfarm.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=913&pictureid=12761
So first click this option at the top of the screen ^^
http://www.baywindfarm.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=913&pictureid=12762
Which takes you to this page. Scroll down for this box, and click what you want - I clicked tops or clothes or whatever...
http://www.baywindfarm.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=913&pictureid=12763
Then there be choice! I went for a boring old organic top :P and you get to see what you clicked etc. Then click the "create" button to go ahead and create it!
http://www.baywindfarm.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=913&pictureid=12764
There's then the option of all the stuffs you can upload to make pictures, and whether you want them on the back or front. So I did some uploading, resizing as aforementioned etc etc...
http://www.baywindfarm.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=913&pictureid=12766
And this is the final one before you go to checkout. As you can see, the design is pretty small, and that's based on their guidelines. I dunno what would happen if you tried to upload anything bigger.
Bit smaller than I imagine anyhoo!!

I think it looks wonderful too. I know when we did this at the other place when we wanted to change/add something we just e-mailed lady bird(that was her name right) And she would set it up for us. I'm sure someone could contact her so that you could do the same here.
Or maybe allow people to change the front but have them keep the back the same. Or say that the loco has to be on the shirt someplace. Just some thoughts.
For me I'd rather keep it simple. Have the logo on the back and just my username on the front pocket area.
Another thing. it is very smart to use the yawning horse. It is uniqe and will make people take a second look.

So the baywind farm forum would be on the back, with the horse head?
The running horse with whom ever name on the front?
We're going to look into what the options are. I'd like one option for the yawning graphic on the front too. It's EASY to create shirts, mugs etc with a standard logo.
Adding the screen name to each shirt may be the part that really gets in the way. They may have to be done one by one, with custom art. I think that's what Ladybrinx did for the h.com shirts, but I'm not sure if we want to get into that, unless KittySaurus wants to offer that. She might make a little money doing it, we just need to work that out and see if she's willing.
KittySawrus
07-19-2009, 09:48 AM
I totally don't mind doing that part - it takes all of, what, 30 seconds to type out and position the name :) and for anyone who wants specific silhouettes, they take maybe 20 minutes at most! I have lots of time over the summer to get the bulk of specialised silhouettes made up, so that'd be easy to.
And of course is monies were involved that'd be a huge help towards my Uganda fund!!
WashingtonBay
07-19-2009, 10:50 AM
Well, here's what I'm thinking we could offer... Different than what we first thought in post 76.
"Plain" tees with just the logo... for $2 over base. We'd split that with you 50-50.
"Custom" tees with the standard logo on the back... your custom artwork on the front with silhouette (or whatever custom art you make, and screen-name... $5 over base. You get $3 we get $2.
The way we could work it, for now, is you could email us the custom art, and we upload it to the site and they buy it from the site. We'd have to make a 'product' for each person that they'd have to choose. (After they've ordered it, I guess it could be deleted), we tally the orders and send you money... monthly, quarterly... or whenever it's a minimum amount (so we're not dealing with having to send out 2 and three dollar checks).
Does the pricing structure seem fair? To members and artist and forum? Be honest! We don't know... we are guessing at how much work it will be to administer, and how many actual orders there might be.
Now... Because you're in the UK... how do we send you money that's useful and easy, with the conversions and all that? Do you paypal?
KittySawrus
07-19-2009, 11:28 AM
Are you happy with that pricing & splitting strategy? I seem to get a large chunk of the $5 o.0 and considering how much those things are - aren't they usually $18/t-shirt? Or are you able to charge less when you have an account etc...
Well, I don't paypal, but my daddy does! So he can sort out paypal stuff. Shall I email you again with details or whatnot?
Otherwise that sounds great! And I can't wait to order a t-shirt for myself :)
(and I'm guessing you may expand later into mugs etc?)
WashingtonBay
07-19-2009, 11:32 AM
You're getting a large chunk of the custom stuff, but it's a lot of work for you.
The total price on stuff varies by which shirt or product it is... We're thinking of making available a few different kinds, tees, tank tops, sweatshirts, even mugs... And we'd tack on those amounts to whatever the base price is on that thing. Especially on the custom stuff, I don't think it matters, we can add it to any of them pretty easy.
And yea - I think we'll have you order one, and we'll order one, first, to see how the quality and all the shipping works out... then we'll make a cafe store thread in the flea market, so people know how to order them.
KittySawrus
07-19-2009, 11:35 AM

I would like a WashingtonBay, with the trotting Arab.
Email the art to me as psd. We'll save it down, as necessary, and upload it to the store. (I'll let you know when this is done, if not today)

07-19-2009, 05:42 PM
Sure. - It would be whatever you want on it. :)
Or you can get a plain Baywindfarm one with no custom. You can order those right now. :) Hubby got the store set up if you want generic stuff, just not the custom shop yet. If you want custom stuff, wait and look for the new thread to go up, it will have instructions on how to order those.
Baywind Farm Shop! (http://www.cafepress.com/BaywindFarm)
And we did raise the price of things by $1. So our markup will be $3 for the 'plain stuff' and $6 for the custom stuff with your name on it.
We did this because in order to offer more than one kind of artwork, which we have to do in order to do the custom stuff, we had to upgrade to a premium account, which is not free, it's $7 a month or $60 a year, so there's more overhead than we thought. Boy, that was a run-on sentence... Hopefully still affordable for everyone!

There... I think that ^ is right.

If you click the link to see the Baywind store: Baywind Farm Shop (http://www.cafepress.com/BaywindFarm), Then click BaywindFarm Stuff, you can see the prices for the stuff with just the "Yawning Baywind" logo. Nothing custom. Those same items with the custom art, with images on both front and back, will be $6 more than the prices listed now.
I'll probably post a thread later today with the details on how we're going to work this. THEN it will be made clear. :) I hope!
