View Full Version : What have I gotten myself into.....

I have just taken aboard two newborn kittens. :o Someone found them in a wall and brought them into the clinic/cat rescue where my friend works and they were going to be put down today unless they found a foster family. I'm such a sucker. They have some respiratory problems due to being inside a wall for their entire short life so they will have to be kept separately from my other kitties until they're better. They're going to live in the tack room because my parents said no more kitties in the house (we have 5 cats already :D). The clinic is supplying all their medicine and milk replacer and will pay for all their costs, I just have to feed them and take care of them. They're unsure of their sex right now. I haven't met them yet. My friend is taking them for tonight and I'll takeover tomorrow afternoon. So for the next 4 or 5 weeks I will be getting up every 4 hours to feed these little monsters. :)

Awww!! I hope we get to see pics! Do you know what colors they are?
Enjoy the round the clock feedings. lol :p Those are FUN!
Also, I'm not sure what kind of milk replacer they'll be eating, but I thought I'd suggest one that may actually be cheaper for the rescue and better for the kitties. If you don't want it that's fine too, but I'll put it incase you do. :)
We use 1 can of evaporated milk, 1 can of water, 2 tablespoons of yogurt and if needed a lil' corn syrup in the beginning. We've used this for puppies, and cats and had great success. Not sure if you remember my foster Scott or not, but he and his brother Joey had this from 3 days old on.
I've heard some iffy things on the canned milk replacers so we always use this.

That's wonderful that you were able to take in the poor little things. It's awful how their little lives can be cut short just because no one can take care of them.
I can hardly wait to see pics!

I can't wait to meet them! I'll get pictures tomorrow when I bring them home. She said they're both grey.
Thanks for the suggestion pandora, but I'll probably just use what they give me because this is my first bottle-baby experience and I don't want to go away from their directions. :)

Well the kittens have been postponed until tomorrow. My friend decided she'd keep them one more night because I have to work tomorrow and she has the next few days off and figured she'd let me get some sleep for one more day. :)

Alright! They're here! And really really cute. :D
They don't have names yet, I just call them monkey faces or lion puppies. I don't know what their sexes are yet, but one seems boyish to me so I call it a he, and the other seems girlish so I call that one a she. :o My favorite is the "he." He's got quite a mouth on him and is really wild. He's my littler punker. :) The "he" kitten is a bit bigger. He drinks more than the other one. He drinks about 12-16ml per feeding and the other kitten only drinks about 7-10. I try to get the smaller one to drink more, but when she's done she's done and won't cooperate any more. I feed them every 3 hours during the day, then during the night I feed them once every 6 hours. Usually at 1:30 am and again at 7:30 am.
They love to sleep on my plaid shirt :)

This is the "he." Doesn't he just have a little boyish angst to him with that scowl? I think so :D

And the "she" kitty. I didn't get as many of her because she was napping and was kind of pissy about being held at the moment

I used to have to take Morgan (FSA) to the bus...had to drive a rural drive, no houses, just corn fields. Saw a kitten in the road...tiny thing...cold wet and he didn't move. Stopped the truck, got out and knelt down to scoop him up. 2 more ran from a corn field and into my lap. All 3 were shivering thin and hungery. Of course I took them home. Called the SPCA, no room at the Inn. Roofie was my favorite, he got neutered and then died of a urinary tract infection a year later. Phil stayed with my ex, who adored her. I still have Indy (Dusty calico). She is my lap-dog-cat. Sometimes those we save make the best pets because I think they always remember.
It's completely awesome you're taking this on. I've always told Morgan if everyone has the attitude that "someone else will do it" nothing will ever get done. You're a "doer" and that makes me happy to "know" you.

Blessing, your kitkats are adorable!
FlapJack, I named mine Salty. One time my sister got mad at me and cut one of her ears off. I also have a black one that looks just like it and its name is pepper.
Alissa, the girl one reminds me a lot of Tulla! :D
