A friend of mine recently dropped off "this stuff that a lot of us are trying for thrush and other gunk and it seems to be working and is much cheaper than all the other stuff". I read through the papers she brought and apparently it is similar to White Lightning... but WL is chlorine dioxide and oxine is also chlorine dioxide BUT in a liquid base. (Not sure if I got this right?) It says that with WL you have to tape up the leg while soaking so the gases can get into the hoof and it it takes 45 minutes per hoof... but this is liquid so you can use a normal soaking boot, with no tape, and it takes 20 minutes per hoof. The directions say to mix 2oz. of this oxine in 1 gallon of water and add 1/2 teaspoon of citric acid to "activate" it. It sounds easy enough and it makes A LOT of liquid BUT then it says to "make sure not to overfill the boot as it will bleach the horses hair". I color my hair so I'm thinking a little bleach on the skin is OK... but does anyone know for sure? Anything to be careful of with this stuff?
