Ranger was very green when we got him. Uncomfortable with other horses, unconfident, etc. We have had him for about 4 years and he is still as green as he was before, if not more, because my mom doesn't have the confidence to ride him. Last fall I started riding him, got him walk/trot with a tiny bit of canter without bucking. I've been doing tons of groundwork with him and he now lunges very nicely and calmly and moves away willingly to pressure(he used to be sent into a bucking frenzy because he had no idea what we were asking). A couple weeks ago, I got on him in my moms new saddle and a rope halter and walked him around. Did well, didn't want to go forward, anxious. More groundwork. Then yesterday, I rode him w/t/c and he did awesome! I had to keep urging him to go to trot but once he realized I wasnt giving up he had a nice forward trot. He also cantered for me without running into it, and besides some unnessicarily-high feet off the ground, he didn't try anything funny.
I hope to ride him in horse camp this year, and possibly show him in walk/trot.
