Gwen and Jade are 5 years old and 3 (going on 4). Last week Jade's preschool class participated in a fundraiser trike-a-thon to benefit St. Jude's. Up until 2 weeks before the trike-a-thon my youngest, Jade, was afraid to even try riding her bike. However, she wanted to participate so badly she went out and practiced every day until she could manage pretty well. Gwen, on the other hand, has been riding her two wheeler for darn near an year and a half now. Anyway, both my girls collected donations at a flat rate rather than a lap rate since we were very unsure how many laps Jade would be able to complete. Between the two of them they collected just over $300 and than went on to ride for nearly 15 laps, until Jade fell off her bike and was ready to call it quits. All in all, they had a wonderful time for a wonderful cause, and Jade is finally learning how to ride her bike!

Thanks Dakota, I agree they're cute pics, but hey I'm a bit prejudiced on the matter, lol. Jade worked really hard to be able to participate, and unlike some siblings Gwen really encouraged her and helped her to learn to ride. They continually amaze me at how close and supportive of each other they are. They don't completely "get" what the trike a thon was about yet, they're a bit young. However, they were active participants in the collecting of sponsorships of family and friends, and they rode their little hearts out.:):)

How sweet is that!! Those girls worked hard on helping the cause. Even if they didn't really understand it, they did a great job!! Thanks for sharing with us!!

Great pictures. It's so nice to hear that the big sister was helpful in teaching the little one. We are just starting to do pedaling with my son for some distances, but he's in no way ready for anything like this! And all for a good cause!

Those pictures are adorable and I think it's pretty neat that at that young age they're already fundraising to help others! My nieces are usually at each others throats (3 & 6) so it's very nice to hear that there are some sisters out there that help each other.:)

Thanks for all the kind words.
I have 3 daughters and my middle one Gwen is constantly bickering with my oldest who is 13 or almost 13. It amazes me with 7 1/2 years between them that she is like this and that my oldest lets it get to her, but when the chips are down they are supportive.
It was funny when Jade actually started really riding her bike, Gwen freaked out big time. Turns out she was very worried that her sister would accidentally ride down our drive way or off the steep hill in our backyard. She stayed right next to her for the first day or two, and even tried to convince her to get off the bike. She came to her father and me and asked if we could gate the whole back hill and driveway to keep her sister safe. It took a bit of convincing, but we finally convinced her that her sister would learn to ride the same way Gwen did, and that she would stay away from the hills (there is plenty of room for them to have fun without going near the hills), and that we would watch her when Gwen couldn't.
Despite them having separate rooms, they were insistant on sharing one room. They have seperate beds in their room, yet every morning I find them sharing the one. I hope they stay as close as they are now. They are 14 months apart.
