I found out yesterday that a dog had been chasing Dallas around the arena yesterday! I was out there giving everyone a bath before it starts getting cold again and my BO came out and told me about it. She had seen a bunch of dust coming from the arena and thought..."Wow..she is here early today" thinking I was out working the horses. But just to be sure, she went over there and found Dallas being chased by this "ugly" dog. She stopped it immediatley and told her crew about it. (I board at a working Dairy)

This dog had been hanging around for awhile, then disappeared. He hadn't bothered any livestock before, but still I felt uncomfortable having him lurk around. Now he is back and is chasing the livestock and was even going after the neighbors chickens. He has growled at any kids that are on the property.

My BO told me they called animal control, but they take their time coming out there. We have been calling animal control since Aug. I told her I could care less if her crew shoots the dog, it HAS to go NOW! She was a bit relieved because she did say if the dog appears, that is the plan of the day. I think she might have been nervous telling me, but heck..if you have a wild dog that is starting to chase livestock and has growled at small children, THAT dog has got to go! I grew up in the country....if it had been my property that dog would have been gone months ago and not by animal control!

Oh man, I don't blame you! We had a friend's dog start chasing my guys and I thought they were going to run through the fence. It's a scary situation. Needless to say, no one is allowed on my property with their dog unless it's leased.

She's certainly within her rights to shoot it. Unfortunately sometimes deciding to shoot the dog is just the start of the problem. Getting a good safe shot off with other stock and unknown hazards down range is sometimes a bigger challenge.

I had a neighbor dog who liked to chase the horses. It was play, and the horses spent just as much of the time chasing the dog as they spent being chased. But I still didn't like it. I solved it by running hot wire lower and closer together around my perimeter where the dog was getting in.

One of my husbands dogs used to chase the and bite at the horses. I put an end to that real quick! Now he chases the ball and won't even turn to look at a horse. ;)

I know how you feel. There is a border at my barn with a dog that likes to chase the horses. She thinks it's cute and allows the dog to chase and "wrestle" with her horses in the arena. I've made it clear that I do not want the dog chasing my horses but she doesn't watch him closely enough and I've had to run him off several times. I'm getting really sick of it. One of my horses is very leary of dogs, especially when they are running at full speed towards her. I'm just waiting for the day that dog runs after my horse while I'm riding, I'll have that dog banned from the barn when that happens.

Taz is a horse chaser.:nono:

We had to chain him up when we kept Rum at the house. He chased Rum through the fence twice, one time Rum was headed down the highway. I near had a heart attack seeing him high tailing it off down the road. Luckily the grass in our neighbor's yard was too tempting for him so he stopped to graze and my neighbor was able to hold him.

This is why I do not want to keep Ludicris at the house. Bad doggie........

We had a boarder at our place that would let her dog chase ALL the horses. One day there was a rider in the arena and the dog went after the horse the girl was riding, the horse spooked, rider fell off (didn't get hurt BUT?) The B.O. told this owner of the dog that the dog was not allowed on the property, the dog owner disregarded the warning and had to vacate the property. Maybe she's at your place VHL. She had 5 horses, sound familar?

Anyway, I agree with you Countrygirl, I would have made that dog disappear if animal control did not. Our kids and horses safety are more important than a stray dog.

Storm was the only horse that I knew that actually played with dogs. They would play tag, no hard running, just easy play, back and forth. That dog only played with Storm, not the other horses, and if Storm quit, the dog would too. I felt safe with the dog, he was a smart boy. Not mine, but the girls that I bought Storm from. It was fun to watch, the only friend Storm had at the time.
When I brought Storm here, he and Gizzy tried to learn to play, but Gizzy being a heeler was always to close to getting kicked in the head when it was his turn to play. So we put a stop to it. One day though poor Gizzy was out in the pasture during feeding time, just standing there. Bob was with, I was in the house, and all of a sudden I hear a scream from a dog that sounded like he was being killed. I called for Gizzy, he come running, momma save me, Bob comes walking up, tells me that Storm was looking at Gizzy, tried to get him to play by putting his hoof out, barely tapped Gizzy on the nose...LMBO. That dog may be people tough, but he sure respects them horses..lol. After over 2 yrs now, he finally goes out with the horses, but goes directly to the grazing area, out of reach. He would not even go in the pasture for over 2 yrs, without carrying him.
Short story, Grace, my female heeler, is gone, sent her back to her previous owner. I couldnt get through to her, that hanging and flying around on Citys tail is NOT a good thing. Im just glad City would look at me as to say, her again, gesh mom, get her off my tail already. Hes so patient, and never tried to hurt her. I wish he would of kicked the heck out of her. LOL
I am so glad you are getting rid of that dog, no matter how it happens.
Dang Im long winded...LOL

Vick....Grace the heeler was hanging on City's tail? Crazy dog..............
IMHO, any outside dogs brought to a barn should be leashed. It seems that boarders bring their unleashed, untrained dogs to barns all over. Got give credit to one of the BO that Laurel trained with, she had a NO OUTSIDE DOG policy. Pretty much told everyone that her dog would EAT any dog he did not know. And she was serious...........

I know what you mean. I was thinking of bringing my pistol out there, but I haven't been out target practicing in awhile. :( So I won't take the shot, but I am sure the main guy (BO's father) is good, they shoot all the time. If they find the dog where he usually hides, and can get a shot off in the right direction all the livestock is clear.

When that dog is lurking on the property, we know where he hides. I haven't heard anything today yet, and my BO is going out of town. I hope her dad found this mutt yesterday. He was on a mission...LOL...I would see his truck SLOWLY cruising the property, so I knew what was up.

It's a stray dog, that does not like to be around humans, except it is not afriad to approach and growl at little kids.

Grace was an idot. Seriously, she had mental issues and after I sent her back, she got worse, had to be put to sleep. Her owner and I tried, but couldnt get through. She sure was a perty thing, and a love bug, one on one, but control was never happing with her.

I do not like unknown dogs near my horses, nor do I let my dogs around other peoples horses, they dont know my dogs, and the dogs dont know the horses. Not a good thing in my book.
Where I boarded, we were allowed to bring our dogs, but only if on leash. How my Ruffus ended up the best trail dog I ever had. He learned all about horses and all the horses knew him.
It really is the responsibility of the dog owner to teach them about horses, and to let both dog and horse learn each other. Some people just dont understand that and let the dogs run wild. Dumb Bunnies I say.

Yep, I don't even bring my own dogs to the horses. They would have no idea what to think of them. When I had to bring Ladybird to our house when the fire broke out at the dairy, we had Ladybird in our backyard and the dogs were in the house going crazy! They didn't know WHAT that big thing was in their territory. We had to close all the blinds and try to keep the dogs away from the windows. It was quite comical but got old fast as they kept barking. Silly dogs. But Ladybird loved the grass....LOL

Why not get a trap and trap it?
