I mean, one H- aflinger P -ower tractor!

I split several large beams out of an old-growth cedar butt to use for hanging a heavy gate off of. The problem was, how to get the beams out of the woods? Well, it just happens that my friend's Halfigner mare, Natasha, knows more about working in harness than I do, so she was the perfect means to an end. Her owner coached me through the basics of 'gee' 'haw' 'gee around' and 'haw around', pretty soon I could turn and back her to the exact right spot for hitching up to the cedar beams. Of course, Natasha won't move until you tell her the right command in the right way, and if it puts her in a bad spot with the harness or log, she stops to make sure everythings OK.

I hope I can get Sweet P broke to drive and pull like that! I'll be hooking her up with Natasha as a team this summer to break her into driving, but it takes years and miles to get a horse like Natasha.

thats awesome. Its nice to see how many ways horses can help out and how much they can be trained for besides riding

Working with horses like that makes work a lot different, too. It is very 'zen'. Natasha loves having a job to do, too. She doesn't get used a whole lot these days. She'll pull a wagon in a parade two or three times a year, and occasionally get hitched up with a youngster for training (the young horse). Last time she got used was a few months ago when I had her packing gravel out to fill post holes (in a swamp). The funny thing is, she will be right there ready to go on day 2 - no chasing around the pasture or baiting with cookies to catch her. She also never forgets her manners.
