So I finally might be getting a puppy. I have two in mind both are females, one is a Lhasa Apso/Poodle/Pomeranian mix and the other is a Jack Russell. I'm leaning towards the Jack Russell because I think she would be more active and like to go the ranch with me more than the other one. But the other one might be more lovey and friendly... The Jack Russel has shorter hair which would be better for the ranch since there is weeds and cheet grass out there at times. As for the Lhasa mix has longer fluffy hair which cheet and stuff would stick to. Which one do you think I should go with? They should be about the same size when full grown.
Now for names.. I really like cute unique names.
Here are some I like:
Paisley
Muffy
Penelope
Lola
Macy
Bailey
Which name do you like?
Help!

Lol, all of the names are great! But Muffy is easy to say and I could see her being a Muffy as a puppy and adult, heh. =D

I think the Lhasa mix is cuter(what I can see of it) but from the sounds of it the Jack Russell might be better suited as a farm dog. :) For the Jack Russell, Bailey. For the Lhasa, Muffy.

Thanks Kiger... er FSA lol... I kinda think the Lhasa is cuter as well but I'm not sure she would be practical. I work at a ranch just feeding evenings and some mornings and other than that we have a big fenced yard and of course Niko but we don't have cheet grass or anything around here.

Jack Russell - Bailey or Paisley
Lhasa mix- Macy
But then Macy might be cute for the Jack Russell too... I think for your area I'd go with the Jack Russell. But they both look really cute :)

I'm gonna say I like the Name Paisley or Lola and it all depends on your home and time situation. If you ge the terrier be ready to keep them occupied and busy! They don't call them "Jack Russell Terrors" for nothin! I'm not sure if you've owned a Terrier before but they require quite a bit of training and supervision so as not to drive you absolutely out of your mind. They make WONDERFUL barn dogs though! As you know, the Lhasa will definitely require major grooming or a special haircut but will most likely be more more "you" oriented and snuggly. You may totally know all this but I thought I'd just chime in!

I want the little black one!!!!!!! They are both cute but I love black fuzzy puppies. I am terrible with names. I do like Lola and Bailey though. When we didn't have a dog the names we picked were Noah for a boy and Maggie Mae for a girl. We got a little boy. I actually wanted to name a girl Isabella and call her Izzy B but my husband wasn't wild about that. Our friends got a little Rat Terrier and named her Isabella and we call her Izzy so I got an Izzy B in my life even though she isn't mine but I love her like she is!
I noticed that at alot of the big horse shows we've been at Jack Russells seem to be the dogs to have. Some people have Westies but I'd say 9 out of 10 people have Jack Russells. I think they get along with horses pretty well or they wouldn't have them. My Westie loved horses too though. The JR's hair would be easier to take care of. They are both adorable. I wish I could take the black one if you didn't but my boy wouldn't allow it! Plus the fact you are across the country wouldn't make it easy to get her but she's so cute! I love hairy dogs.
My first cat's name was Muffy. I always think of Muffy as a cat's name but it could be for a dog! Thankfully most of my animals came with their names because I'm so bad with them. Our newest kitty came with the name Molly which I like. If she wasn't Molly she'd be Naomi so my husband is glad she was named Molly! Good we never had kids since I was naming a kid Montana no matter boy or girl! Our late dog's name was Dakota.

I forgot if you never had a JR from what I've heard they are terrors with tons of energy. My friend has one and she said all's it does it go Boing Boing Boing off the walls all day then at night finally crashes. Our friend's rat terrier is the same way. She never stops moving, I was holding her and she'll let me hold her for like a minute then she wiggles to get down so she can jump all over me to pick her up again!!!!! I used to call my Westie a "Terror" she had more energy than I've ever seen before, we also called her "White Lightning".
I love their personalities though, I would get another terrier in a second. They do make some people nervous though because of all their energy and sometimes the temperment can be "iffy". My Westie hated kids and she was more likely to bite than most German Shepherds I know. She was very socialized and obedient she was just snappy.
I play on getting another Westie some day but I am older now, maybe all that energy would kill me at this point!!!!

hmmm... kinda mutating one of yours... I like Marcy or Marcie for the little Jack Russel.
If you're wanting a farm buddy, I'd definatly pick the JR... on the hair alone! We had 3 long haird dogs at the barn back home (1 currly), and it was a night mare! Dead of winter and they'ed jump in the water through and then roll in the dirt! And that was with the unheaded trough... once we got the heated one, you couldn't get them out of it!

Pallavesta knows alot about the terrier breed, she has rat Terriers which are VERY similar to the JR in temperment. You might want to PM her before getting the puppy if you decide on the JR. I emphasize this because I've known of more than one person who got a jack russell and ended up having to get rid of them because they weren't bargaining for the reality of a terrier...lol. All three of the people were horse people who've owned dogs before too so they thought they knew what they were in for.

Thanks Mandzanita, we have a Scottish Terrier and a Scottish Terrier/Schnauzer right now so I know how they respond to certain things. I have trained them both and have competed in dog 4-H with both of them so I know training a new dog will not be a problem. I will PM her though as I know Rat Terriers are very similar and I have had experience with Rat Terriers as well.

I have a dog named Bailey....I love that name....lol! And I am also partial to Poodles (my Bailey is a Poodle), so I really like that little black fuzzy dog, altho the JR is adorable too, but if you want a dog to go to the barn the JR would be a better choice than the other one.....but the other one would be quite a cuddly little lap dog at home tho. Tough choice....let us know what you decide!

Thanks Remali, thats what I have been going back and forth about but I have two cats that I have had since 2 days old and they are more cuddly lap cats so I think a more active dog would be better or the dog or cat might get jealous.

The JR sounds like a better fit to your lifestyle, but both are adorable. Good luck.
