Sorry for the all caps title but I am quite excited.

They just called and left me a voice mail message. Cane's surgery went "VERY VERY WELL". They were able to remove the damaged tendon flap and all the adhesions. Cane came out of recovery like a trooper and is back in his stall already and doing great. They want to keep him for at least 2-3 more days to monitor him.

I am been nervous but calm all day.

Thanks for all your well wishes and positive thoughts, it has truly helped.

Now we just start the long road back to recovery.:cowboy::cowboy::cowboy:

Yay!! That is the best news of the day :clap: That was a great insurance story as well, I'm so used to horror stories about Insurance not covering things and here, they quite possibly saved his life...well their funds with your loving decision :) So glad it turned out as well as it did and prayers go out for a successfull recovery!

I talked with the vet directly, as I needed to hear more. He was impressed with how well the surgery went and said they found more damage, but everything cleaned-up nicely. He said that had I not done the surgery the adhessions would have severly damaged the piece of the tendon that was left. There were more adhessions in there than were showing on the ultrasound and they were able to get them all. Cane will be on sedation medication at home for his 2 weeks of stall rest with hand walking at my request. I know my boy and know he is going to be really po'd after being out and not being restricted again. I will have bandage duty every 2-3 days. I think I should buy stock in Vet-wrap (3M) and Elastikon. Maybe I could to a DVD and sell it on hand-walking, hand-grazing and trail walking for the disabled horse?????

The weather is supposed to be really bad Sunday so I am very hopeful to be able to pick him on Saturday.

I have not stopped smiling since I got that voice mail.

That's great news.
Glad the surgery went well and he came out of the anesthesia well. You know, I thought Al would be a real problem after his colic surgery with the month of stall rest, but I think he must have sensed that he needed to take it easy because he was a real trooper. Good luck and with the handwalking you will have time to create a stronger bond with him. Al knows my life story!!

I think you might want to consider being an agent for your insurance company as well............after what you have reported about your policy, there may be more than one person here that might want to get the same policy. I know I am considering it...............

I just called and guess who is doing fantastic this a.m....... The girls in the barn are spoiling him big time and he has his girlfriend (very cute black mare) right across from him.

Here is a holy crap moment
I totaled up last night the LOW est. of the surgery and what I have spent total on this injury, are you sitting down.....................this is with fuel, vet wrap, drugs (not mine just his LOL, although I think when your horse is injured you should automatically get a prescrip. for Valium) calm & cool, additional shaving............
$9000 but remember that the insurance has paid $7500 of this, not bad for a premium of just under $400.

When I said this to hubby, he just looked at me and smiled then said, "It is a damn good thing I love you and really love that horse."

HEHEHEHE I am so spoiled.

Wow, premium under $400. Thats awesome. You get to make payments on what you owe the vet I hope.
Im glad he is doing so well. He is being all manly for that mare hu? Gotta be tough and heal up for the girls..lol
Cant wait until we get to see pics of him again, and you get to have him home.

Cane comes home tomorrow (Saturday). I am so excited. He is doing great and will come home with supplies of bandages, SMZ's and sterile gauze. They asked if I needed to see the wrap change so I would know how to do it, umm nope did it for 3 weeks with the initial injury. The office manager was funny, she said, "I thought you would be all set with this, but the vet intern wanted me to ask." I asked a stupid question back, "Why would I need too? Is there something I need to watch for?" She laughed and explained to me that the majority of their clients (my jaw hits the ground after the next part) have literally no idea how to wrap their horses legs. I know there is a specific order and as long as that is written down I am fine.

YEAH!!! (Tanya runs around sceaming with excitement):)
