My Collie, Lady has been having eye issues since her bath.
I think she got soap or doggy cologne in her eyes.
I rinsed them ALOT but still the lower pink skin of her eye is not so good.
She keeps rubbing it and making it worse.
I will call my vet in the AM, but need to know, can you give a Collie Benadryl?
I will give her some now to ease the itching.
Collies are sensitive creatures and can not take certain things.

I searched out that some people give it to Border Collies, they are the same family, so it should be safe. Anyone say NO to that?

I'm gonna have to say, is there an emergency vet you could call just to ask? OR maybe is there a collie forum out there where you could ask (I'm sure)?

edit: I know NOTHING about them, but I think I've heard the "sensitive" thing too. And I looked- apparently collie forums aren't as plentiful/busy as horse forums. ;)

Either way, I hope she's feeling better soon!

Sorry, Vicky, I know absolutely nothing about Collies.

I do know that if you're not sure, don't give it.

Have you tried Googling it for an answer?

Maybe this can help:

I would definitely consult a vet first.....some dog breeds may seem similar, but aren't.

My friend Val called the ER vet while I was on the way to the store, they said to get allergy eye drops, we put them in and they seem to be a bit better. I will call my vet tomorrow to see if she needs something different.
I am going to shower and hit the sack, got to get up at 530. Val is staying over to watch her and make sure all is well.
Val and her hubby just got off work, so we met at the store and she came home with me.

If you have any chamomile tea at home you can make a really strong chamomile tea, soak a washcloth in it and put that on her eyes. Chamomile is very soothing and really helps.

Good luck, hope she'll feel better soon.

:clap:Her beautiful eyes are back to normal looking, hardly rubbing at all.

Val and I gave 4 drops in each eye before I went to bed, 2 here then 2 there, and Val gave 2 around three AM. The difference is amazing.
Im still debating on weather to tell the bather or my boss today, it was a payed for bath, although coworkers in a sence, I was her customer.
