I'm just curious as to who shows with AQHA on here. I just started showing in it this past summer and I've only done one show, but I'll be showing with them next year aswell. I showed in novice youth english pleasure 14-18 and novice youth equitation 14-18. Next year I'll hopefully be doing novice youth 14-18 classes and youth 14-18 classes, both in english and western and showmanship. I'd like to do some western riding and mabey trail too.
If you do show in it, what do you usually show in? Is there certain shows that cost you more to enter in than others?

LOL...I thought you were saying showers, as in baby showers, wedding showers. I was trying to wonder what a AQHA shower was. I would change the post name to maybe People who show AQHA????I dont know.

Ohh lol I didn't even notice that..
when I went to change the title, it doesn't change the actual title, it just changes the title when you actualy clikc on the thread. How do I change it so it shows up in the main section?

I have done AQHA shows in the past and found that I honestly did not like being judged. In my area it is very cut throat and political. I did western pleasure and horsemanship.
The key is to have fun and try to keep up with the treads so the judges notice you.

Well I don't think I'd want to be outside when that was going on!

Generally breed shows are more expensive than open shows, and that's all I know! :D I can bet that shows with more money in the prizes or that are in a series will be more $$, but that's more specualtion than experience.
I can say that a show with more than one judge per class costs twice as much per class than a show with one judge. It's like going into two classes per one class you enter, so more $$. Getting a stall can cost the same or more as showing out of a trailer, so if you were planning on two or three day shows I would try to get a stall if you could. The bigger breed shows (I've only been in Pinto/APHA) are slower and more laid back, it's like you hurry up to get ready and then wait for a few hours. It's nice though.
I showed HUS with Fred, or English Pleasure depending on the class. If he was more of a western horse I would have done WP too. I also showed Halter with him.

TanyaC97- I didn't like being judged either. Just like in your area, its very political here aswell. I got "excused" from my HUS class because I had half chaps on. But the next english day, I could ride in the class with half chaps on. Its all in the preferance of the judge, but I mean, if I were a judge, I would still let a 16 y/o girl ride in the class if she had half chaps on and not fancy tall boots.
FredRock- Oh I definatly agree with you about it being mroe expensive. We were there for two nights and we took our horses back to our trainer's place becasue it was only 20 minutes away form the grounds, so we didn't have to get a stall there. Plus stalls there were hard to get in the first palce, so there weren't any left. I think with class entries, show fees, food and stalls for the night, and gas money, it cost us around $300 to show for 3 days (one of which I didn't even enter in any classes and another I went in half a class and then couldn't show for the rest of the day) So technically $300 to show in 2 whole classes. But, I learned a lot, so it wasn't all a waste.

Ah, horse showing, the only way you can spend over $1,000 just to get a little blue ribbon. I don't even think you can sell them or anything.
I've given up on showing now, too much stress and money for nothing in return. Although I can say I'll always remember the pizza and wings at 11pm coming home from a show, and how awesome it felt to win two blues on a horse I personally trained. The best part about showing is the memories you will take away from it.

Yeah, really. I know my parents ask themselves everyday why I had to pick the most expensive hobby there is lol. Yep, the memories and the sutff you learn are for sure the best parts of showing, and knowing that you did it yourself by training the horse you ride. Although, it does feel pretty darn good when you win in a class of 10 or more people with amazing horses I must say.
