Okay, so I just found out recently that Dixie is in fact a full blood QH and does have papers. The couple that bought her before she was owned by my BO never got the papers from the seller and I'm curious if there is a way that I could obtain these.

I'm going to call the couple pretty soon her, once I work up the effort. I also wanted to invite them out to the barn to see how Dixie is doing, I know they always liked her.

What should I ask them? The previous owners, what about them? I have no idea what to say or even how to obtain the papers.

This isn't important to me much at all but I'm extremely curious about her breeding.

Hmm, I have no idea but I hope some one can tell you! I would actually like to know too. Beauty is also a registered Quarter Horse. I do have her papers, but I don't know if she's in my name on the AQHA records or whatever. I have no idea how to transfer that info, or even if I have to. I have her actual papers all ready with her blood lines, etc.

Annie: If you know her registered name you can find her last recorded owner.

Dakota: You DO need to transfer her into your name. It's 15 dollars plus a membership fee. And it's worth it in the event the old owner ever disputes anything. Especially if there is a skip in owners between who you bought your horse from and whoever is on the papers. For all you know, the horse was never legally transfered.

Ooooh, good to know! Thanks! So how do I get her transfered? Can I do it online or what?

I'm not an AQHA member, but I know with APHA you go online and print off a transfer report (unless you have a newer registration certificate with the form already on the back) then you fill it out, get the signature of the last recorded owner (it'll be there on the certificate) and mail it to them. If you don't have any contact info of the last recorded owner you should contact the registry and they'll help you track them down.
