I am in the process of asking for 2 new lunge lines and a surgincle for my birthday to start ground driving my gelding with. I wanted to get a sidepull, but my parents don't want to spend a fortune...my mom is skeptical because I got a lot of English stuff for Christmas and have never really used it...my saddle didn't fit and I can't afford a new one, so I'm selling all of that. I have a little s hackmore that I thought about using. I tried it and it seemed to work ok. I want something more than a halter but less than a bit. I also have a snaffle I was going to sell, but would this be a good thing to keep and step up to later, or I have a kimberwicke, could I use that later also. I am trying to save as much money as I can! Thanks ahead of time guys!!!

More than a halter... less than a bridle.... Lunge caveson! Sorry I just sold my two, but you can usually find them fairly cheap in nylon.
A lunge caveson has no bit like a halter/side pull. But the nose band can be fastened securly and the fit is more like a bridle to allow for more control/communication.

Take a look at these:

or search for it on e-bay, there were alot on there too!
